The Monster Zoo

Awesome Arts Festival

A children's AR experience about endangered animals.

Project Overview:

The Monster Zoo, commissioned by the Awesome Arts Festival, is an interactive AR experience for children aged 6 to 14, focusing on endangered animals and wildlife conservation.

Our Solution:

Activate Studios developed an AR filmmaking application that uses augmented reality to create an engaging and educational experience. Children use AR technology to discover and document invisible monsters in an augmented reality documentary.

Key Features Included:

  • Interactive AR filmmaking app for children.
  • Focus on wildlife conservation education.
  • AR trackpads generating 3D models and animations of monsters.
  • Suitable for museums, schools, and libraries.
  • Fun and meaningful learning experience about endangered animals.

Find invisible endangered 'monsters'.

The Monster Zoo AR experience was produced way back in 2013 (yeah, we were using AR back then – before APPLE!) and features ‘monsters’ which are modelled from actual endangered Australian animals with the goal of promoting conservation and raising awareness for endangered wildlife, which lack a voice in society. Help document the Leatherback Monster, Hairy-Nosed Monster, Stick Monster, and The Gulbaru Monster!
