Lone Pine

Footprints

A digital installation.

Footprints follows a selection of native Australian animal interactions depicted by their footprints which were projected onto the floor of the installation, as seen from a top down view. Each set of tracks tells its own individual narrative. An additional corresponding projection on the wall displays visual and textual information in frames on each animal depicted in the display used to describe the interactions between the various animals as their footprints meet.

To accurately portray each animals footprint path, our animators studied the gaits (movement styles) of each animal in consult with Lone Pine’s animal experts. The painted visual aesthetic was inspired by the grey, cracked cement the projection was cast. The ambient environmental sounds were recorded at a location in close proximity to the sanctuary and each footstep was carefully recreated by foley artists in a soundproof environment.
